Is College of Arts and Sciences easier to get into that the college of engineering?

I will be applying to Cornell next year and intend to do a CS major. However, I have seen that one can get a CS degree from either the CAS or the COE. Is it easier to be admitted to the CAS than the COE for CS and would employers care about a B.A. Instead of a B.S.?

It depends. If you are a woman, it would be easier for you to get into COE. CAS is one of more competitive schools within Cornell to get into.

I went to an information session at Cornell this year and the admissions counselor explained that there is no difference between a BA and BS for CS. Also, CoE is known to be easier to apply to if you are a female.

The difference is not the major, it is with the rest of your program of studies.

Look into the curricula and requirements of these two colleges, in detail.
There may be differences in # courses you would have to take that you don’t want to take, and limitations on courses you would be able to take in other areas that interest you.
