Is college worth it?

What do you guys think about this?

Sure, college is expensive. There are plenty of negatives about that, so one shouldn’t take that step lightly. But I feel that colleges provide plenty of positives too: just look at how many kids switch their majors within the first few years. Now, imagine they went to a vocational school instead. If that’s not what someone wants to do afterall, they’d have to start all over again. If nothing else, college requires a certain degree of flexibility, tenacity, and creativity.

I also feel it gives kids time to grow up. Feel independent, make decisions on your own, figure out how to achieve something without the parents breathing down their neck.

So what about those costs? Like the other thread about Suzie Orman, her message is totally right: no one should go into huge amount of debt (and huge is a vague word on purpose). There are just plenty of ways to hold down costs: scholarships, work-study, grants, and picking the right school.

BTW: I bet John Stossel has a college degree and he’s sending his kids to college too.
