is columbia hard to get into?

is columbia hard to get into?

is it easier than other ivies? i was trying to look for an ivy that i would actually have a chance in.

that is a very bad start position for your search. first of all... why only ivies?
also the ivy you'll have the best chance of getting into will be the one that most suitible for you. every ivy school has its own characteristics.. if you research each a bit you'll see that they are all vastly differeny from one another. "just looking for an ivy" to get into is not going to get you in anywhere. they look for students that "fits" their school, not people just apply because the applicant thought that he/she would have a chance in the school.

is columbia hard to get into? statically yes, but stats only provide a general overview, they do not tell you much about your individual chance. and this applies to all other ivies as well.

research each one of them, find one that YOU like, not one that others tell you you have a chance at.becuase the one that you fall in love with will be the one you have the greatest chance at.

good point.

but can u tell me their avg stats or something?

if you arn't even motivated enough to go to the admission website (or read the pinned post on this board) I don't think Columbia is a good choice for you. (the stats are VERY easy to find)

i looked at the stats after posting the msg.

there are plenty of schools that are just as good as and plenty that are better than the ivies...ie wesleyan, williams, mit, stanford, haverford, swarthmore, duke..find the one that makes you happy and show why you love it, and you'll have a much better chance of getting in.

is columbia hard to get into?: DUH. all the ivies are. DON'T JUST GO LOOKING FOR IVIES. with so many other great schools to choose from, they're really not such a big deal anymore.

"there are plenty of schools that are just as good as and plenty that are better than the ivies...ie wesleyan, williams, mit, stanford, haverford, swarthmore, duke.."

Hilarious. Wesleyan, Williams, Havorford, Swarthmore, and Duke are better than the ivies? On what basis are you making such a judgement? For most of the schools you listed, most people wouldn't even go as far as saying better than SOME.

why is that hilarious, pidge? i didn't say better than all the ivies -- i said there were some that were just as good, and some better, and then i listed a few within the same range. when schools are that good, you can't say that one is unequivocally BETTER than another -- each has their own pros and cons.

and in the end, it all depends on what you're looking for in a college.

The ivies (at least, the ones that play football with each other) have become magnets for middle-brow strivers where, even with extreme discounts in tuition and a glut of international students with nowhere else to go, Amherst, Williams and Wesleyan (and Swarthmore) often pick up the best students.

I don't mean to rant here - but I for one am sick of this "oh its an ivy" syndrome. No offense to columbia or any school for that matter...all the ivy league is is a sports conference. I mean - some people take this whole thing way too seriously - especially the ones who make comments such like "each of the ivies has its own flavor - not everyone fits all of them." EVERY school has its own flavor - its not some unique thing that only these 8 schools have. And are all the "ivies" the best schools in the country? Of course not, they just happen to be 8 really good schools that are hard to get into that are in the same divison. Enough with putting these schools on a pedestal.

i agree somewhat with jags i chose columbia because of columbia not because of what sports conference it came from cornell is an "ivy" and so is princeton but i would never ever apply to those skools statistically wise i believe cornell may be the easiest but u should look into what programs they offer and see if it fits what u want and o to other posters stop being so harsh stop attacking people for asking a ?

this is a ridiculous thread, can we get a mod to delete this nonsense

haha i know. when i read the title i'm like well you know, i was born on jupiter so my head is flat and i cant see and THINK correctly columbia must be easy to get into piece of cake. that's like asking if barnard accepts men.

Hard?

If you are perfect - valedictorian with 1600 SAT's - that just gets you a lottery ticket, your number still has to get pulled.

beprepn

I literally LOLed at this post. I’m sorry, but you pretty much embarrassed yourself by asking “how hard is it to get into Columbia?”. The fact that you made that statement means you seem like you want to do the least amount of work possible to get where you want; a HORRIBLE attitude towards academics and, well…anything worthwhile. If you want to get into an Ivy, you have to work you little 17 year old behind off. The Ivies are some of the BEST schools in the world, and the admissions counselors are the best as well, and they will see right through your application and note the lack of dedication.

And to Jags - like it or not, the Ivies ARE overwhelmingly the best schools in the country. Yes, they all started as an athletic conference. However, if you look at the statistics, they are also rated the highest and appear in clumps at the top of the list (US News and World Report). The fact that you have gone to an Ivy will ALWAYS look good on any resume. Yes, there are other excellent schools that are not Ivies, but the Ivies have a certain classified prestige that no other schools can obtain. I agree that the “Ivy or Bust!” mentality is not a good mentality to have, but you must admit, they have a reputation for academic excellence and will afford a student a world class education.

lollll

you want an easier Ivy? statistically, Cornell’s the “easiest”

^um, this post was made 4 years ago, which means the OP is now a senior (assuming, of course, that he/she got into a college).

HAHHAHAHAHAHA OMG I’M LOLiN’ AT THIS ABSURDITY

A. BECAUSE OF THE INITIAL QUESTION ASKED AND THE RIDICULOUS COMMENTS THAT FOLLOWED
B. SOMEONE JUST COMMENTED OFFERING A RESPONSE TO SOMEONE THAT WAS ALREADY ACCEPTED/HAS BEEN ATTENDING COLLEGE FOR 4 YEARS

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH SO FUNNY

HAHAHA wow. I never check the dates…why in HELL’s name would this post show up at the front??? Embarrassing
