Is Communication(Media Studies) program strong in Berkeley?

Hi, I want to become a communication major. I applied as a transfer student this yr to Cal. However, I am not quite sure if Media Studies is a strong/well-known program at Berkeley.

let me know.

yes it is, its very strong, and it is actually one of Cal’s “capped” majors, meanining it is HIGHLY impacted.

Thanks Calbearguy! I hope it is interesting… I heard that unlike UCLA, Cal does not teach inter communication. Cal only focuses on Media attentions. is this true?

Im sorry I dont know enough about the major to answer that question but u shoudl check this link out

Hi, I’m really late to post, but I’m a Media Studies major at Berkeley. Honestly, IMO, the MS major isn’t strong at all. Calbearguy is correct in saying that it’s a capped major, but that doesn’t mean that it’s good. The department is VERY small, hence the restricted space for all of the students that want to major in MS. We only have about 4-5 faculty members and one is leaving at the end of this semester.

The MS major at Cal is also 100% theory. You will not have the opportunity to get ANY hands-on experience. If you actually want to get any experience in the field, you will need to get an internship right away and do as many as possible.

I hope that this post wasn’t too Debbie Downer for you all, but I just had to post my experience in the MS major. Yes, it’s Cal, but the major is pretty bare bones. HTH!
