Is computer science just not that popular of a major at NYU?

So, I applied EDII with the CAS as my first choice and Tandon as my second. Well before I made that decision I looked for media (youtube or blog post) of current students in either department and information seems very sparse. Everything I seem to find seems to either be about tisch or stern students. Is the major just small or does it just get overshadowed by the more popular ones?

IPEDS has the actual numbers by department.

Well, NYU is known for Tisch and Stern–those are the ‘big name’ schools at NYU, so I think it’s natural that they get a lot of attention. I wouldn’t call computer science a small major–more introductory or major-required CAS computer science classes can be around 100 people, with long waitlists (longest I’ve seen is 40+ people!). Additionally, a lot of people minor in CS or have a joint major involving it (I know quite a few people majoring in or minoring in the combined Math + CS program).

Smaller majors would be something like linguistics, for example. I have yet to meet another linguistics major outside of that major’s classes.

If you’re interested in discussing the CAS computer science experience at NYU, I’d be happy to talk about it–I’m a double major in that and linguistics.
