Is Conn worth it?

There seems to be a general consensus that Conn's financial aid packages are anemic. I want to ask the vague question, is it worth it? What sets Conn apart? Is the cost differential between Conn and a good state school honors program or just a very good state school justifiable, and how so -- or how not? Answers can be concrete (98% of all basketweaving students get into the best basketweaving grad programs) or speculative (you will meet a broader range of people or whatever)

Hopefully, this will help everyone think about what I am sure is a puzzle for many. Sure, Conn is a great school -- but many perceived better schools give better packages, and we have heard evidence that schools nipping at Conn's heels, such as Wheaton, have been generous.

Thanks.

Anybody? I thought it was a good question...

It is a great question. I just don't have the answer. D is trying to make a choice and basically that's exactly what it comes down to: paying full price at Conn or going with a very similar school with a very nice scholarship. We would find a way to pay for Conn, but it would be great to feel that we made the right choice.

Yay, a response. I was concerned that some may have read my post as disparaging, but you understood what I meant, Peabodie.

For what it's worth, I have anecdotal testimony from a former colleague (whose opinion I trust) whose daughter graduated from Conn a couple of years ago. I'm told that Conn is awesome! Of course, I'm sure we could all come up with anecdotes for just about any school -- and this doesn't answer the question of whether another school with lower costs and/or better aid is just as awesome... Hoping someone else sees this and adds some light to the topic...
