Is Cornell cut-throat?

I have heard that Cornell is very cut-throat and competitive and was wondering if its true. Also, to what extent are grades scaled?

very competitive for jobs and internships...but so is everywhere else...

depends mostly on your major and how selective/difficult your program is (aem, chemE)

Please. AEM and ChemE should never be mentioned in the same sentence.

Cornell is extremely difficult, but not cutthroat. I always see many people working together but I have never seen people trying to sabotage each other's work in order to gain some sort of competitive edge.

Grades are scaled (usually harshly) at every single Ivy except maybe Brown and Harvard. I have heard that Penn, Princeton, and Columbia scale particularly harshly as well. Nevertheless, there are easy majors everywhere.

Not to high-jack thread, but how's the level of comp. in AEM? I thought it was the easiest major because it's business?
Grades are curved?

It depends on what AEM class you take. AEM 220 is not curved. AEM 240 is curved. I've taken both and I thought both classes were a joke. I didn't even have to take the final in either class and I still got an A+ in both!

AEM is easy because anybody with common sense can do well in AEM. Also their grading policies are like those you see in high school. Some AEM classes give out extra credit and drop your lowest test scores.

You're going to face curves pretty much at any school you go to so don't let that change your decision.

AEM is considered one of the easier majors. ChemE is considered really difficult. If you're going into the arts, I don't think it'll be that competitive. Science courses are usually curved, especially the premed courses.

Goody good, cause AEM would be my choice of school at Cornell =]

Also hate to steal thread thunder =P but how about Communications?

Communications isn't bad either...I took 2 COMM courses...lots of writing but I received an A in both classes.

Thanks for your opinions
and no worries about thread thunder = )

I will let you know in a few days when school starts.
