Is cornell for me?

Do you think I have too many ECs?

I’d do ED if you really want to go somewhere, but you need to study over the summer for your standardized tests! While they are not everything, they are certainly something! I recommend a tutor or an online course! Best of luck!

As for the essay I agree with danishpastry123, but I also like your idea! It shows character, but you need to show how you rose above it above that one teachers opinion to do something great!

^^^ thank you… I was working at MacDonald and I was wondering if i should list it too! But have way too many ECs http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/1172058-rejection-because-too-many-ecs.html

Show them you’re qualified by getting a high ACT score, not by writing an essay about how you were called stupid. 1500 is pretty much unacceptable. So, you are going to need to improve your scores.

Your URM status will help you but at the top of the URM totem pole are African Americans. It is not highly unusual to see high achieving African immigrants actually.

How about my ECs, I mean I had to cancel some of them because I thought the adcom would reject me. I dont want to risk any thing me applying is a risk in its self! so please help. as of now this is what it looks like.

Get your SAT scores up and then you should be fine! Good luck!

Yes, taking the ACT in september will still be good enough for ED. I think you have a good chance, and you should DEFINITELY try for ED. You never know what will happen. Just get those standardized scores up!

^^^^ Thank you all

Not to sound offensive, but I’ve never seen anyone with 1500 SAT in real life, much less a Cornell student/applicant with such number…

LazyKid – the test is designed so that 500 per section is the ‘average’ score, each 100 points is 1 standard deviation. If, over time, the scores drift significantly from this standard, they recalibrate.

So, roughly 1/2 the people taking the test score below 1500 +/-.

We all (including OP) agree, it’s seriously low for Cornell.

^^^ I mean I dont mind the comment, it is just that that was discussed in the first like 7 comments. Oh well I guess he did not look at them.
@ zephyr15- thanks for having my back, you rock!!

First of all shout out to Africa…lol…but u def stand a chance…tht SAT is holding u bac though…I would say don’t retake cuz u can’t improve tht much in so little time…but def take the ACT…good luck

Sent from my SPH-M920 using CC App

The summer is almost over…What’s your latest practice ACT scores? Are they over 30 at this point? I assume you have been studying for ACT hard (few hours a day?). I guess you are going to use ACT scores to replace SAT IIs because you didn’t list any of your SAT II scores. I think an adcom may look at your application and think this is someone who has spend a lot more time on EC than on his schoolwork.

I would seriously look at other schools, make sure you have some good safeties. CAS is one of the hardest school to get into, Physcis wouldn’t be a walk in the park at any school. Applying early and being an URM will only help you a bit if you were qualified.

Other schools I should apply to with a 29 ACT
What other schools should I apply to-
My list right now
ED Cornell
U of Chicago.
John Hopkins.
Penn state.
U of Maryland.
Rutgers.
Drexel.
Other schools With a good Astronomy reputation. Thank you!!!

That ACT is still below the 25% for Cornell, so don’t be too trigger happy with cornell yet.

^^^Let’s be serious. He has a 29 ACT score and is bilingual or whatever. He has a better chance than an American student who learned english from day one and recieved a 29 on a test which is hardly any indicator of college success.

What back up schools should i consider?

I am serious, I’m sure he has a great shot, but if someone puts all of his eggs into a basket like cornell (that is an immense crapshoot), you are lining up for disappointment if a rejection/deferral occurs.
Of course you have terrific chances to cornell dude your app is great, but just be aware that rejection is possible.
Some backups could be ranked 20-40 schools, [National University Rankings | Top National Universities | US News Best Colleges](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/spp+50)

Good luck at cornell, but what I said before just means be ready for anything.

If you’re not a permanent resident or us citizen you’re considered an international applicant regardless of where you live. 1500/2400 no chances whatsoever. 1500/1600 competitive chance as an international
