is cornell intellectual ?

I’ve had the famed late night philosophical discussions on occasion just for the hell of it, yet I also party 3 nights a week. Sure, people tend to make the occasional joke that would be considered terribly nerdy at many other schools, but overall, when we have fun we have fun. Whether your idea of fun is raving in a drunken stupor or going to the Johnson and looking at art, you’ll find it here.

I don’t think a direct comparison to other universities is possible, but I think personal experiences over many months (or years) are enough to say something about Cornell itself. it’s not like I only talk to specific people or go the same place every day - I eat all over campus, I study in different places, I go different places on the weekend…so I think I’ll have a feel for what the general population likes to talk about.
plus, everyone here has some point of comparison. I just think of people from my summer job. they were great, and we had plenty of fun, but they didn’t tend to talk about the stuff people at Cornell (sometimes) like to talk about. it’s not a value judgment, just a difference in interests.
you can have good conversations in other places though. how about deep philosophical discussions from the sleepaway camp bunk when you’re 13? that’s quality thinking right there.

No, they spend their time picking their noses and reciting the ABCs backwards.

Just kidding. Seriously, Cornellians are as intellectual as you can get. Name any topic, and you’ll get a dissertation (exaggeration, but to the point)
