Is Cornell your first Choice

Wait, Nicky, (sorry if this is a touchy subject, don't answer if it is) you were waitlisted? I must have misunderstood. I thought you were deferred. Oh well, if I choose not to go to Cornell, of which I'm still not sure, you can have my spot. :D

Seriously people who ask other people this question now AT THIS TIME shouldn't go there :) ( say no at once!!)

Haha, nah I was deferred, I'm just saying though...I think anyone on the waitlist who really really wants to go there should be able to instead of someone who like doesn't appreciate Cornell's real ultimate power :p

If you're not sure you want to go to Cornell, go somewhere you're sure of =p

Yeah, sorry, I realize it sounded really bad. Hopefully, you didn't take offense. Seriously, though, it is a good school. I love it and I'm truly torn. What I don't understand is how people treat it as a "safety ivy." I agree that people who are using Cornell as a last resort, in case their other plans should fall through should leave it to somebody more dedicated. It's cheesy, not too mention incredibly egocentric. I'm done now. :)

Haha, it's all good, don't be sorry, I wasn't even really ing at you...I was talking to homeboy who said "why should I go there?". It's one thing to be like, unable to decide, but to not be able to decide on your own why you might like a school is just totally ridiculous in my opinion!!!! Anyway, don't stress, we all know I can get a little crazy/y when it comes to my Cornell love!! Haha

I wasn't refering to you LP, good luck with whatever you decide.

The "safety ivy" notion is greatly exaggerated. The kind of students that get in can go pretty much wherever they want. People go to Cornell because it fits them.

sorry- I didn't realize that my post would be so offensive to you. I haven't been to campus yet or talked to any students and I just wanted to see why people who have visited Cornell love it so much.

It's okay, we would expect uncertainty from someone with your name :)

I think it basically boils down to what you want out of your 4 years. For me, university is really about preparing for greater things in life.

If I just wanted an impressive degree from a prestigious school, I suppose a handful of other good schools would do. So why Cornell? Because it is beautiful in every imaginable way. When I clinch my Cornell degree in four years' time (I hope!), I know I'll be taking not just textbook knowledge with me. That piece of paper will tell of countless trips up and down Libe Slope, of hikes in Ithaca's gorges and of watching the sun setting over a glistening Cayuga. It'll speak of an experience wherein so much was created beyond the four walls of a classroom.

And Cornell, because of the people. People who value the lessons learned beyond books and theory as much as I do; people who could see beyond her reputation as the "safety Ivy" and embrace her egalitarian spirit of "any person, any study"; people who believe in the magic of a beautiful, sprawling campus and appreciate others who do as well. I want to be at Cornell, if only because the "work hard, play harder" dictum works for me. I want to be around people who can take the immense stress of Cornell's education and yet still remember to smell the roses.

Really, you could take the university apart and analyze every aspect as to why it is the dream campus for some of us, and even then you might not be close to understanding our fanaticism. A lot of Cornell is about "heart", cheesy as it may sound. Such a big place could mean many things to many people, but whatever it is, at least one part of Cornell must resonate deeply within our hearts. For me, Cornell is the culmination of natural wonders and wonderful people.

I can safely say that I have never loved a university the way I loved Cornell. Sure, I had high hopes for college life, but nothing spectacularly grand. Then it all changed one afternoon as I surfed site after university site and then came across Cornell's. I remember stopping and saying to myself, "Oh my God. This is it."

LOL, that's just the long version. nickyjane, FishS, nomad etc definitely sum it up better than I do for anyone still asking the question NOW.

Ah~! I applied to a rolling college and still haven't heard from them. runs around in circles

With an enthusiasm that intense, how could they NOT accept you?! I believe more than a few CCers would be banging down some admissions' doors if that ever came to pass, myself included!

Awe I love it, leigh787. You've definitely come to the right place! I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you next year. Let us know as soon as you find out!!

Haha I'll do that. The wait is agonizing tho... sometimes I think I might as well fly over and help them sort the apps out (of course, must put myself and all those crazy CCers in the "accept" pile :D )
