Is Craigslist safe for subletting?

Hey guys,

I'm doing an early arrival program at my college and need a place to stay for three weeks or so. Would Craigslist be a safe place to find housing? Or the university's facebook groups page, for that matter? I'm not going to be reckless about it, of course, but I still feel a bit uncomfortable using these mediums. In both cases I'd be subletting from college students studying abroad.

Would an extended stay hotel or AirBNB be more practical? The on-campus housing locks you into a certain building/dining plan for the year and I'd rather not have that, so I opted out.

Thanks in advance!

Finding housing through your university’s facebook group’s page is better than finding housing on Craigslist. With Craigslist, you’re going to be getting a lot of unwanted spam replies in response compared to legit replies.
