Is critical reading or math more important?

Is a higher critical reading score better or a higher math score? Is it better to get a 750 CR, 550 M, or 750 M, 550 CR?

i don't see how that makes a difference. anything is fine.

it will depends on your major, i would imagine. also depends if you are international

yes, your major and may other factors come into play, although I am personally more impressed by 800CR than 800M...it seems as though really good CR scores are harder to come by.

ya, I think it's harder to come by an 800 in CR than in Math.

A person with an 800 math does seem smarter than a person with an 800 CR due to the simple fact that I know quite a lot of people who have read their entire lives and easily score 800 on CR. However, these same people can't manage to get over a 670 math and aren't that 'bright'.

An 800 on CR is high percentile-wise, but that's not what we're concerned with. A liberal arts college will look past low Math scores, and vice versa, depending on the selectivity of the school.

Depends on the school. MIT probably wants the math, but a top LAC might be more interested in CR.

And I know a lot of people who are great in math and got an 800 in math easily, but these same people can't manage to get a over a 550 CR. The ability to read and write will get you farther in life than being able to do math problems, but of course thats JMO. However, I would consider anyone who gets an 800 in ANYTHING, bright.

Yes I agree with priceless28. Anyone who gets an 800 in EITHER CR or Math is "bright." They aren't necessarily well-rounded. I'd say CR 800's are brighter in terms of real-world discussions and interactions, while math people are really "smart" in science and math subjects. Neither is "better" or "more important" than the other, unless you're talking about admissions to a place like MIT or a Liberal Arts College (LAC).

It's my personal opinion that you don't have to be particularly good at math to get an 800 on the SAT. I personally am terrible at math (talent-wise) but had a good old Asian education and got a 790 and a 5 in Calc. I worked my butt off for it. BUT a lot of people who get 800s in Math ARE really smart and obviously didn't need to study very much like I had to. I wish I were a natural!

Critical Reading is more important. On the SAT I, the math is nothing..that's why people take SAT II Math IIc..

ehh i got 800s in both SAT I math and SAT II MATh IIC. But only a 680 CR..........

CR is more cumulative, math is more prep-oriented (though it can also be cumulative).

I prepped the same for CR and math, and got a 770 CR and a 720 math.

Ya...I think the math is more predictable, I think.

that's because the questions in Math just keep repeating themselves.
