I haven’t heard much about their religious policies but I was wondering if they are very strict about it. I was raised Catholic and for a brief period, I was in a Catholic school (wasn’t really that strict about religion) but I am not religious.
I am gay and religion makes me uncomfortable. I’m alright with taking one or two religion classes but I don’t want to do any religious activities like go to church. I know many gay people are religious but I am not. Is Depaul a safe space for LGBT people and do they enforce religion? I’m extremely interested and hoping to go to DePaul.
Also, I know that DePaul is a pretty liberal school but I’m still curious.
I’m a grad from many years ago and there’s no religion forced upon you other than having to take 2 religion classes. If what you think of religious classes are priests preaching and the like, no, nothing like that at all. I think the majority of classes would be more like history or political science classes, with a bend towards religious topics. There’s a lot of choices of different religions as well, from Catholicism to Judaism to Buddhism to Muslim to Hindu studies.
I’m gay too and was worried about that as well, but once I visited they were very relaxed about it. They made it a point to say that youdo nothavetobecatholic and from hearing from people who have been there say it’s not religious unless you want it to be. As for the LGBT part I have looked into that and it has a large population of LGBT people, especially gay men. I’m a lesbian so I’m hoping it won’t be all gay men, but just from that I can tell it will safe at least.
