<p>Like the rest of the south, Duke was all white until the 60's. One of the most important basketball games Duke ever played was when it lost to Kentucky in the semis in '66 (?). That allowed the all-white KY team to lose to all-black UTEP in a historic game. I say it was a great loss for Duke because otherwise Duke's all-white team might have held public perception back even further.</p>
<p>Duke ain't what it was even 20 years ago. if black professors call it the plantation, they might want to recognize the irony. Since one view is that universities are designed to make professors happy (students, etc. are part of their experience as much as the other way around, and profs stay a lot longer on campus), then these black profs own the plantation...</p>
