Is doing an Olympiad senior year worth it?

Is there really any real gain, besides the experience, of doing an Olympiad your senior year? It seems to me that, because you get your results after you have probably chosen which college you will go to, your time would be better spent on other pursuits, even if you were good enough to compete on the international level. Is this true?

If you are good enough to compete internationally, you will get to spend a month or two at a training camp for the U.S. team. The top 50 or so get to attend this. So that could be a good learning (and networking) experience.

It might help you get off wait lists. Besides that, if you’re the type of person who thinks olympiads are fun (like me!) it’s worth it. Otherwise, it’s not.
