Is doing research better than taking summer classes?

Hey, guys

I have a dilemma here. Just two days ago, I was offered to do research in Speech Pathology department with a professor in University of Iowa, and wants me to respond by this friday!!!! I think this is a great opportunity for me, but I've applied to other summer programs (MIT MITES, Caltech YESS, Carnegie Mellon SAMS and AP/EA) that are free summer classes only. They don't send out admission decisions until April and May.

I had asked Iowa for time extension to respond back and I haven't got any response yet from them. So, assuming they say no, and I have to respond by this friday, should I spend my summer in a some obscure university in the Midwest doing an original research with a professor (this cost money, but have finanical aid), or take free summer classes at "high-powered" universities like MIT and Carnegie Mellon? I'm still agnozing over this!!!! What do u think? Should I reject the University of Iowa's offer, and wait for MIT and Carneige Mellon's response?

I'm thinking that I hvave a pretty good chance to get into Carnegie Mellon, but I'm not too sure about Caltech and MIT. Who knows? The University of Iowa's offer could be the only offer out of all summer programs I've applied to.

It really depends on what sounds more appealing to you, doing research or taking the classes at MITES and stuff. I personally think doing research would be a lot more fun, but it should really be your choice.

I would go with the research
