Is Drastic improvement in SAT Score possible in limited time ?

Guy's please help me out. I gave my SAT in March and got a 1650. CR : 500 Writing (Essay =9) : 500 Maths : 650
i scored really low, one of the reasons is because i didnt have enough time to study as i was preparing for my finals. i am appearing for Oct. i have 3 months to study. I want to to get 2200+ score. Yes im being optimistic. I CAN DO IT. please tell me how can i improve my CR and writing to 700+. Currently im committing 80 College level words per day. i have the intention of memorizing all the 3500 words of barron (i'll do it by mid-Aug) and im reading complex articles every day for 1.5 hours ( Time Magazine, The Economist, Scientific American ) im reading Barron's Writing section. i think i am improving (as in reading critically, I think). PLease give me more advices. and what im doing is right ? will it help more drastically. I also study like 6+Hours a day

It must be a coincidence, I also looking for urgent help, but no one responding. I who also score the same score as you did I got 1650.In math I got 570, reading 550, and writing 530. I need advice to into increasing my score to at least 1900 Im a rising senior, don’t have lots of time. But what I am doing right now is that I made a schedule like a calender where I book 6 out 7 days of daily studying until the day of the offical test . I would focus on one subject for two days straight and switch off to another subject for at least 2 hours as much as I can last. I usually do this during the afternoon around 1pm-4pm. The books I’m using are The SAT Prep Black Book for advice and strategies, Gruber’s Complete SAT Guide 2015 for practice sections and The Blue Book. I also I have Directs Hits But I haven’t touched vocab yet. I am planning to retake by October and If I don’t reach my goal planning to retake in November for last chance. Thats all I can say because I too need help and advice into increasing my scores. Good Luck!

3500 words=bad
1.5 hrs of times, etc = bad (at the moment)

instead of 3.5k words …

-go thru direct hit 1/2
-google “501 sentence completion”
-read intro
-go through chapter, mark unknown word/wrong answer
-fix mistakes
-test yourself using sumthin like: <a href=“SAT sentence completion practice test 01 | Major Tests”>http://www.majortests.com/sat/sentence-completion-test01</a>
to find out when u are content
-all the while use sumthin like: http://www.merriam-webster.com/wdictionary/word</a> to find definition/derivation of words you dont know

and…

Improve your method. reading articles will help, but not nearly as much as improving your method of pbr. once you have improved your method, then you can practice using “complex articles” or w/e
i recommend erica meltzer’s the critical reader.

for writing … yes go through a book. there are also some good youtube guides that you can review with. for essay, the online guides here are good imo. practice practice practice for the essay.

Do untimed Blue Book tests. This will help for both CR and Math, as you begin to familiarize yourself with concepts and skills.

For CR, attempt to get everything correct - read slowly to grasp meaning and aim for 100%. Once you’ve mastered the accuracy portion of the test, resort back to timed practice. You should find that as you practice untimed tests, your comprehension will improve and as your accuracy improves, your speed will start to improve, as well. For vocab, memorization will not help you remember the words for long. I’ve heard that Direct Hits is quite helpful, but otherwise, try some apps like Mindsnacks (Apple App store). By using a game-like structure with rather childish animations and easy-to-remember pictures, it is one of the best ways to learn and remember the vocab well. And, if you enjoy reading articles, keep doing it. It’s a great way to improve comprehension, but don’t force yourself to do it if you’re not enjoying it. I believe you can miss up to 7 and still stay above 700 in this section.

For Math, I see that you are at a 650. This is the level where you’re either really good at the easier (level 1-3) questions and struggling with the tougher ones OR you just happen to make simple mistakes. Nevertheless, brush up on algebra, geometry and counting/probability concepts. In addition, Khan Academy has great videos to help you tackle specific types of problems on the math section, so definitely check those out. Just as with CR, do untimed practice in the Blue Book and try to master all of the questions. Because there is such a severe penalty for even simple mistakes (on the June administration, I believe 3 incorrect was a 700), you really have to know your stuff.

For Writing, brush up on grammar rules, if necessary (I see you’re using Barron’s so keep at it), but realize that a lot of the questions can be answered based on the way they sound in your head. If you generally practice proper grammar in your daily conversations and writing, you should be fine. Familiarizing yourself with the test certainly helps. On the essay, your goal should be to get a 10 - since that is the lowest score that will never hurt your overall score (i.e. a 9 can bring a perfect multiple choice score down to a 780). The best way to get this is to familiarize yourself with the College Board writing style and develop your own formula based on it. Also, prepare a couple of canned examples before the actual test - examples that can be used for really any topic. When it comes to the actual test, you’ll end up spending less time on brainstorming and more time on writing. Finally, make sure you hit the 2-page mark because even if your essay is great within 1 1/2 pages, the graders will feel a lack of depth and give you at max a 9. As a result, you could write a crappyish essay and hit the 2 page mark and still get a 10. I would, however, advise against intentionally writing a crappy essay. :P

Hope this helps! Good Luck! :)

^Great detailed answer, and helpful to everybody  THanksss
