Is Dual Majoring at Johns Hopkins reasonable?

Let me provide some context to the question:

Suppose I got into Johns Hopkins in the BME program (b.s.), and also chose to also major in biophysics (b.a.)

I am coming in with 5s in AP Chemistry, Bio, Calc BC, Micro/Macro, Physics C Mech. and E&M.

Also, I am bringing in 12 transfer credits (its the max, otherwise I would bring more in) for Calculus III, Differential Equations, and Organic Chemistry I.

Would dual majoring in these two majors be a reasonable task (meaning I can graduate within 3-4 years)?

Note: I can handle difficult coursework very well, but am a little above average with handling a massive workload and time management. I’m one of those kids that just has to listen to the lecture and come to the lab to be ready for a test.

Thanks!

(current BME and CS double major)

  1. Is double majoring at Hopkins reasonable? It depends on the major combination. Some are downright easy (scheduling wise) and others are impossible.
  2. Is double majoring in BME and Biophysics reasonable? I'm not an expert on the biophysics department, but I've done some cross referencing. This would be s difficult combination to pull off. The both majors are demanding and, while there is some overlap in their core courses, their requirements don't seem optimal for a double major. You may be able to pull it off - especially with your AP credits, but i wouldn't attempt it. Personally i would advise against double majoring unless you have a very specific reason to do so. It's a lot of effort and generally not worth it if you don't know why you're doing it - personally i can't think of why a BME/Biophysics double major would be "necessary"
  3. Regarding your...academic success No offense intended, but I wouldn't go into hopkins with the same mindset as you had in high school. Most Hopkins students were at the top of their high school class and a lot didn't study in high school. However, very few people can say the same of their time at Hopkins. You may be one of those people, but i wouldn't bank on that.

double major is easy, but bme and biophysics is not. too little overlap courses. cant really fit into 4 yrs doesnt matter how many credits whatever you have. so many people i know are like you in hs myself included.
