is duke very score-based?

is this true? i heard that duke is very score-based. i'm a rising senior, but i'm in a bit of a dilemma...i am seriously considering applying ED, as duke is my top choice. i want to go premed and duke has a strong premed program.

here're my stats:
unweighted GPA: 3.65
weighted GPA: 4.3

SAT: 1510/2310 - 750 CR, 760 M, 800 W
SAT 2's: 3 800s

hardest courseload possible all years
junior year was 4 APs/3 honors courses - will graduate with 11 APs under my belt

5 top leadership positions (all presidents, or similar like production director)
and i started a small business

school and county don't rank, but my county gives these charts of distribution of cumulative averages. based on the class of 07's profile, since the one for 08 hasn't come out yet:

i am top 19% countywide for both unweighted and weighted GPAs

what are my chances???

i'm hoping that my high scores will compensate for my absymal GPA. if i wait until regular decision to apply i can bump my unweighted and weighted GPAs to 3.7 and 4.38, respectively. what should i do? do i stand a chance ED?

I'd say that your chances are pretty good ED for Duke.. if you really feel that you will be happy at Duke, I'd say apply early!

I got in ED with similar stats last year (low UW GPA, high SAT/SAT II scores, high weighted GPA, toughest junior & senior courseload out of anyone in my school).

From what I see.. you could also very well get in RD.. one thing that matters though is who else is applying from your school. If you are against people with higher UW GPAs but lower SAT scores and not as many leadership positions as you (Duke is not just very test-score focused but also likes leadership positions).. Duke would likely pick you over them.

Good luck!

your scores are good...you have a good shot
