What is the advantage of applying EA to schools like Yale, especially if there are a few students in your class applying to Yale as well?

Also, I heard that ECs count tremendously at top schools like HYP but several are meaningless considering how strong the applicants are. What does really does look impressive? I'm a rising senior so I have my resume, but I want to know what type of student really does stand a chance at a top school, mainly EA at some place like Yale.

It can’t hurt to apply EA. But, make sure you finish your other applications before EA news comes out, as it can be really tough to focus after a denial or deferral. Good luck!

The only advantage offered by EA is that you will be notified earlier. This can help you to determine which RD apps you send (e.g. if you get into Yale SCEA, you don’t need to apply to safeties RD).

As long as you don’t want to apply ED to a school there’s no reason not to apply EA. It’s nice to know what’s going on by December or get a safety school acceptance in hand.
