In part to achieve diversity and in part to level the playing field for students who don’t have strong college guidance, private tutoring or all of the other advantages wealth brings. I think certain types of colleges place a greater emphasis on diversity than others -Amherst for example or really any of the top LACs and The Ivy League schools
