Is Economics a good major for Med School?

I just got accepted to Barrett ASU under a biological sciences major in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I want to be Pre-med but want to choose a major that I’ll enjoy and will provide me an alternate, high-paying, enjoyable career if med school doesn’t work out. I really like economics and was wondering:

  1. Is Economics a good major for pre-med?
  2. Should I choose the economics major in the W. P. Carey school of business bc of alumni and job networks or pursue the economics major in the liberal arts and sciences college?
  3. Should I double major or minor in biology in addition to Econ to be better prepared for the MCAT/ Med school?

If you want medical school your major is not important as long as you take the required pre-med classes.

Exactly. As he/she said^. I would suggest taking a science major and double majoring and having a minor though. As it will better prepare you for Medical School.

  1. Yes if you can get a good GPA in it.
  2. The school of business probably has better job prospects.
  3. No, the pre-med requirements should be sufficient for the MCAT.

Thank you guys!

@goldenbear2020 Do you think it will be hard to take my pre-med science classes in the liberal arts and sciences school if I’m in the business school for an Econ major?

^^^^That will vary from school to school. A factor will be the required core curriculum for the b-school and the school’s liberal arts core (as well if any AP classes you have count etc.)
