Is Education a Right or a Privilege?

Once upon a time, the “Old Money” Republicans, tired of being a mostly minority party, looked about for some way to enjoin working and middle class Americans to abandon their own natural economic interests and vote Republican.</p>

<p>The OM’s hit upon the tactic of appealing to the deep religious faith of the targeted groups. Promises to stop abortion, never serious or actually to be realized, return America to some mythical pre-existing “state of morality and decency” and return prayer to the public venue ensued. </p>

<p>After decades of good success at the polls, and without having to actually deliver on ANY of the promises, the Republicans found that they were increasingly indebted to religious interests and some folks were starting to notice their lack of performance.</p>

<p>To the horror of the OM types, the evangelicals began to hijack the party.

<p>Some, who believe in this Republican OM group, also think this group, by manipulating public education, intentionally created a citizenry too ignorant to be capable of voting in their own best interests, one that is suspicious of education and threatened by unfamiliar ideas. I admit this crosses over into conspiracy theorists whacky-land.</p>

<p>Forgive me for responding to this quote here but I don’t want to post on the Jesus thread and I think it ties back to education being a right or a privilege.</p>
