Is Electrical Engineering a stable major to get into in the future?

I ask this because the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that employment for EE shows that there will be 100 fewer jobs compared to now. I’ll be applying to colleges in a year and am worried about the job options for the future. So should I avoid EE and look for something else?

Hopefully your future job will be one of the 315,800 jobs that will exist in 2024.

If you look at the details, they actual predict an increase in EE’s (1%), while there is a decrease in “Electronics engineers”. When you consider retirements, and job changes, I wouldn’t be too concerned with it. If you want to be an EE, be an EE.

I’m an EE, and I don’t see why that should deter you if EE is truly what you are passionate about. As long as you do well in school, then you will still have a greater chance for employment than many liberal arts majors. The numbers you see do not necessarily tell the entire story. For example, you might see that CS jobs are increasing more rapidly by just the number alone, but what happens when you take into consideration how the number of students trying to get a CS degree is changing?

I’m an EE too and a good chunk of the EE’s I work with are going to retire in the next 5-10 years and there aren’t that many people to replace them due to the increasing amount of people doing CS as opposed to EE.
