So I have read that Emory maintains an affiliation with the Methodist Church, but it doesn’t seem like the school as a whole is focused on that. Would you say that Emory is focused on the Gospel and Christian values, or is it more on the sidelines?
Thanks,
Macey
Really? Niche said that it’s the #1 Christian school in America, but it could be wrong.
In that case niche is completely wrong, which is not unusual. Read the Emory website instead of third party sites if you want accurate information.
Emory has a very large presence of Jewish students & almost no Christian overtures.
Emory maintains an affiliation with the United Methodist church and has a United Methodist seminary Candler School of Theology on its campus. Undergraduates who are children of United Methodist ministers get a tuition discount. There is a United Methodist church Glenn Memorial United Methodist adjacent to campus. If students want to get involved in religious activities they can but it is not forced on the students. Students of all religious faiths and of no religion attend Emory. http://www.emory.edu/home/life/religious-life.html

It may have Christian origins but is by no means a Christian school. Emory’s values are pretty much all emphasized on teaching and research which is in part why they have D3 sports. There is no religious vibe whatsoever though there are students from all different religions.
Emory is not an evangelical college. It’s affiliated with the Methodist Church and is secular. It may have won that title because it might be the top university that’s comfortable for Christian students.
I wonder if any of the above posters have actually attended Emory or have a child who did ?
Emory is about 30% Jewish & listed at #10 for number of Jewish students among US private colleges & universities.
There may be some Methodists there, but they are very low key.
You have to take the definition of “Christian” very loosely with these online ratings sites. If a school has a history of being connected with a specific church or denomination then it’s categorized as “Christian” even if it’s been totally secular for generations. You must do your own research and visit each school.
