Yeah Blue Bell is easily the best mass-produced ice cream I have ever had. Not even a contest.

Blue Bell is the best thing about TX.

Man, I could see those flavors on pasta, but ICE CREAM? You win the gutsy award of the day :0

The pepe nero is really good. It’s got a more neutral-flavored milk/vanilla base, with the sort of round fruity flavor of good olive oil… but it’s not oily. Then it zings you with a little bit of a peppery bite at the finish. I tried it on a dare, but now it’s my favorite.

I thought Blue Bell was the ultimate until I went up to Milwaukee with my husband and had frozen custard at Kopp’s. It’s not even a contest. Die-hard Texan that I am, I had to concede victory to the custard.

Frozen custard: egg-based custard
Ice cream: cream based, with egg
Gelato: no eggs, whole milk, typically denser because it doesn’t get as fluffy during the freezing process due to no egg emulsifiers
Sorbet: Basically like a popsicle… frozen juice.

Hmm, DH is from Wisconsin, so I’ll have to check that out sometime! Is there a Kopp’s in Madison?

MTA: Great thread!

I like this discussion about ice cream, but seriously guys, stick to the topic please. I must have my answer.

If you are eager to answer another question after answering the first, try this bonus question: which engineering major is the hardest? Your responses will be welcomed.

The one that you’re the worst at.

Anyway now for the age old question. Chocolate, Vanilla, or Strawberry?

Vanilla all the way.

I like vanilla, unless I’m in the mood for chocolate. Strawberry is a waste of dairy product.

My husband’s class was studying the Neopolitan Chord the other day and someone brought in Neopolitan ice cream to share with the class. Music geek joke. Also, ice cream-pertinent.

Unfortunately, Kopp’s is only located in the Milwaukee area. =( I would think that there’s probably some really good frozen custard in Madison, though… I have sources. I can find out for you.

I am a die hard chocolate fan! I like vanilla a lot too, but I USUALLY prefer chocolate. Strawberry is one that I have to be in a weird mood to like, otherwise, just go ahead and don’t even offer me any.

vanilla all the way. strawberry is for ■■■■■ and chocolate looks gross…

Vanilla is too blah! What a controversial thread!

Though DavyJones’ spam threads below are gone now I gotta say they have reassured me the existence of intelligent life on earth

depends on the person. I know some people who have to study really hard to do well, but some don’t. I mean I find humanities and social sciences majors harder because I am bad at reading and writing and I don’t do quite well in things I’m not interested in. I believe the range of difficulty is not universal, but again depends on the person.

Vanilla with cookie dough and oreos you crushed up yourself is probably the best tasting food in the universe.

fail.

10char

Kaondres has a point, I know some brilliant guys that can easily so advanced mathematics but if they try to write anything it’ll read like the hyper-musings of a 3rd grader.

Anyway back to the main point of this topic, if I could sustain life off of a surgically placed cookie dough IV, I would.

I never said he didn’t have a point. In fact, I didn’t even actually read his post since it didn’t have to do with ice cream. I just noticed that he actually answered the original post, therefore: fail.

Cookie dough is good, but I still prefer my mind chip or just plain chocolate. Sometimes, throw in some peanut butter for good measure.

Also, hot fudge could make eating a pine cone pleasurable.

Cookie dough ice cream is vile, and so is that shortening-based cookie dough crap that people sell for fund-raisers. Only, repeat ONLY, cookie dough made from scratch with butter and real vanilla extract is worth eating. People haven’t had the good stuff, all they’ve had is the artificial crap, so they think that’s good. Same way Dunkin Donuts and Tim Horton’s stay in business–their customers have never had real donuts.

+1!!!

We should have a Engineering CC meet up at Marble Slab or Cold Stone.

I think they should just combine the two and introduce Marble Stone already. STOP MAKING ME CHOOSE!!!
