<p>No, it’s not.</p>
<p>No, you pick your major I beleive by the end of the sophomore year. My D was interested in it for that very reason since not 100%. They do have advisers that you can meet to discuss majors, etc.</p>
<p>It is definitely not binding. As mentioned, you need to declare your major by junior spring and can change all throughout. From personal experience, switching away from engineering is possible even as late as junior winter (that’s how long it took me to switch from engineering). The only issue I had was I had taken so many science prerequisite classes, my only options were other science classes</p>
<p>That’s what my D liked about Dartmouth, the flexibility. Some schools, like Carnegie, you are looked into not only engineering but particular fields of engineering. You can try to switch, but it isn’t as easy (I don’t beleive alot of the computer engineers leave, etc). You also have option to explore other areas (liberal arts/college). She still wrestles w/major choice.</p>
