I am an international student and have applied to US universities for civil engineering. I have got into suny buffalo and Cincinnati for my course. My top choice was purdue and its decision came day before yesterday. They could not offer me admission in the department of civil engineering, or as a matter of fact any other engineering except agricultural.
I have alternate major choices of going into all the energy technology programs (give emphasis on technology here) like building construction management tech, mech engineering tech, electrical engineering tech, etc.
Purdue obviously is one of the best engineering institutes in the country but the fact that I did not get the general engineering program except agriculture is a shock to me. My main plan is to get an MBA degree from a good grad school and get a high paid job. So will studying engineering tech at purdue affect my decision because i have heard a lot lately that enginerring tech peole do not usually go to a grad school, they just start their career as technicians or technologists. please help im really confused

If you want a Civil Engineering career, go to the school that would offer it. If you can handle the rigor of an engineering program, you should do it over a “tech” degree.

Not many Civil Engineers go into a MBA program, right after they graduate. It’s much more common to go into the industry first (for a relatively high paying job), and then after working for several years, enter an MBA program.
