So let's say that your FAFSA EFC is 30,000. Will each school that you send your FAFSA to provide the same set of financial aid/loans regardless? I know that you may also apply for special circumstances but in lieu of all that will the package be about the same or will a private university provide more/less?

Thanks!

The EFC that FAFSA generates will be the same sent to all of the schools. HOWEVER, the amount of aid you might or might not receive depends entirely on the school (for school funded aid). With an EFC in the $30K range, you would NOT be eligible for any federally funded aid except stafford loans. Your school might have some grants that they offer to students but the amount of these would vary from school to school…depending on their financial aid awarding policies…the %age of aid they are able to meet with institutional funs…and the cost of the school. If the cost of the school is LESS than your EFC, you would receive no need based aid as you would have no need.

Each school has a different ability to give aid. Many privates don’t have much aid to give…so being a private doesn’t mean getting more aid.

For instance, with a EFC of $30k…

School A costs $50k. It may ONLY give you a $5500 student loan.

School B costs $50k. It may give you a $5500 loan and a $10k grant.

School C costs $50k. It may give you a $5500 loan and $2500 in work study.

FAFSA EFC is the same everywhere, but not all schools use just FAFSA EFC. Some use CSS Profile and/or their own FA forms.
