Is February 7th the Next Milestone?

According to the Olin site, this is when the "candidate" status letters would go out. Is that right? So maybe the kids will hear about the 10th?

In the past. . . . those sort of letters came pretty quick, via DHL or FedEx, at least for those invited to CW.

I'd guess they will arrive no later than the 10th.

Was last Friday the closing day for applications?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they came the day listed my year (Feb. 6 in our case).

At any rate, It won't be long after that date.

Yeah, they came the day listed for me too. My mother was freaking out since she knew rejections didnt come overnight UPS.

As a second question, what schools did you guys turn down to go to Olin? The best school(s), that is, in your opinion.

Schools I turned down: MIT, Mudd, Rice (quasi, turned down the waitlist), RPI, WPI, Colo School of Mines, UT-Austin, Vanderbilt, UVa.

best schools out of there? Rice, UT, or Mudd. Depending on what you want in an education.

As everyone else mentioned, we were amazed to see the package from Olin arrive on the very day listed for notification. Having said this, there were a few people we knew of who received their invitation a couple of days later, and were afraid they were rejected when they saw others posting that the package had already arrived. Son turned down MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Duke, Rice, amd Vanderbilt to attend Olin.

I didn't apply to any reaches besides Olin because none of them seemed like good fits. In fact, no college that I applied to besides Olin was a good fit either. I could have done a much better job with selecting other colleges to apply to, but all's well that ends well.

At any rate, I was also accepted to RPI, Rutgers, Norwich, Clarkson, Lehigh and Colgate.

Once I visited Olin I realized no college fit me better.
I applied to so many not knowing what I wanted in a school. It freaked everyone out starting out in the process, but I figured I let the letters chose a college. That didnt work either. So Olin did it for me.

These are great responses. I think my S has come to the same conclusion, namely that Olin fits him better than any other school by a wide margin. Now we need to wait and see if he makes the Candidate list.

get ready to have phone calls home when letters are due out.
It was that way for all of spring for most kids in my class. Most of us knew the time mail came and we'd call home about 30 min after wards (if we knew someone would be home) I was never guilty of that, most of my class was though.
or if he has off campus privileges for lunch and is close enough to go back and forth, mad rushes home to check on the mail. did that once.

one of my friends sat on his front porch waiting for the mail once, freaked the poor mail man out. He did this for a week waiting for his CalTech letter.

My son turned down MIT, Princeton, UC Berkeley, Caltech and Carnegie Mellon to go to Olin. He had always thought he wanted to go to MIT, but once he visited Olin, it won his heart, and he has been thrilled with it.

Letters are currently in the mail and should arrive by Friday, Feb 10th.
