Hi guys

So lang comp test I tomorrow. I have no clue what I have to do for this stinky test haha

Btw, my teacher emphasized two points all the time. Dont ever use I, we, me... and dont ever write less than 5 paragraphs for an essay.

what do you guys think?? I personally think when I have to write about my personal experience, first person is pretty necessary since readers can be empathized simply by reading paragraphs.

should I absolutely avoid using it????

I write four paragraphs for argument…is that wrong…? I combine my counter and rebuttal into one paragraph, though it could probably work as two separate paragraphs.

Avoid first person for opinion statements.

X is correct because…
is preferable over
I believe X is correct because…

But if you are using a personal example, use the first person.

And it is ok not to write a 5-paragraph essay. Advanced writing is not about following a formula.

Well, Barron’s prep book said it’s okay to use first person. But we shouldn’t use ‘one’. I think we can come to the consensus on not to use the formulaic 5 paragraph. I think it’s alright to use less than 5 as long as you talking about the same idea in each paragraph. But commonly, ppl write more than 5.

Avoid 1st person.
Paragraph number doesn’t really matter, as long as you completely answer the question. The 5 paragraph model is just easy to do in the context of the time frame.

I did intro, body, and conclusion paragraphs (# of bosy = # of topics ) and no personal pronouns last year. I got a 5.
