Is Fordham where fun goes to die?

First off, I know the title is exaggerated a little, but I'm a rising senior and have heard mixed reviews on fordham social scene. The academics are top notch, which is of course important to me, but I have also heard from multiple sources that fordham and its administration can be a little bit of a kill joy. I know two former students, one who graduated and one who transferred out. Both admitted that there freshmen experiences were lack luster when it came to having a little fun i.e. partying. One claimed the school was incredibly strict with underage drinking and partying, and the other said there was simply a lack of places to go have fun around the bronx. Now, I know there are plenty of fun things to do that don't involve drinking (and I don't want to party every night and get shmacked) but, I do like to go out drinking and have some fun from time to time. Also, I would not want to have to go to nyc all the time because that would get really expensive. The guy who stuck it out for all four years did say his experience got better and better each year (which is good), but I want to have four fun years not two or one. I would love to hear a Fordham students take on this.

Thanks

(ps. also heard there really strict on visitation, but not sure if thats true.)

That’s almost true anywhere, but I agree. It depends on your school year, though.

I am not a party guy, but I hear people going to parties or having fun often. This is at LC though.

Well yeah, it’s still a Catholic school.

I have to agree 100% with this because the older you get, the less core classes you have to take. I think that is where a lot of dissatisfaction comes from. I know at LC our dean “suggested” we took 4 or 5 core classes a semester! Felt like High School, and they really don’t like it when you take non-core classes your first years. From what I hear, core classes can range from being blow off why-am-I-paying-for-this classes to adding a lot of workload.

I honestly have not heard of anyone being really bored by Fordham, either here or at the school. It’s definitely not a party school, but I see people casually drinking a lot at the LC dorms. Rarely does anyone get in trouble. I’ve heard of a few bars people go to at RH, but not much. I always got the feel that RH was more inclusive in the senese that people had fun inside of it. Maybe someone from RH can tell you more.

And yeah, getting someone to visit or stay over is annoying.
