do i need to take a foreign language to transfer?

dbguy4eva,

You should probably read through the IGETC:

Requirements of the IGETC are:

Area 1 - English Communication

Three courses required, one in English composition, one in critical thinking-English composition, and one in oral communication (at least 9 semester units)

1A - English Composition
1B - Critical Thinking - English Composition
1C - Oral Communication (required by CSU only)
The requirements 8A and 8B identify courses which, when taken in sequence, satisfy the 1B requirement.

8A - Critical Thinking
8B - English Composition
Area 2 - Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning

One course (at least 3 semester units)

2A - Math
Area 3 - Arts and Humanities

At least three courses, with at lest one from the arts and one from the humanities (at least 9 semester units)

3A - Arts
3B - Humanities
Area 4 - Social and Behavior Sciences

At least three courses from at least two disciplines (at least 9 semester units)

4A - Anthropology and Archaeology
4B - Economics
4C - Ethnic Studies
4D - Gender Studies
4E - Geography
4F - History
4G - Interdisciplinary, Social & Behavioral Sciences
4H - Political Science, Government & Legal Institutions
4I - Psychology
4J - Sociology & Criminology
Area 5 - Physical and Biological Sciences

Two courses, one physical science and one biological science; at least one must include a laboratory (at least 7 semester units) Courses that include a lab component are underlined on ASSIST IGETC reports.

5A - Physical Science
5B - Biological Science
Area 6 – Languages Other Than English (required by UC only)

Proficiency equivalent to two years of high school study in the same language

6A – Languages Other Than English

not to hijack the post but i completed 2 years of spanish in high school do those grades count? if they do allow the highschool grades of spanish do they count the grades in with the gpa or do just check it off that it is done?

does that mean ill be automatically rejected if i dont have any room in my schedule for another language or do i have to find time? i do speak another language tho... does that matter?

zub88 they don't count into your GPA if it's from high school they will just check it off, but if it from a CC and it's transferable (which it should) will be use to calculate your overall transferable GPA.

and the 2 year language other than english is a requiremnt that you must fulfilled

dbguy4eva,

Did you take one in high school?

i did take a foreign language in high school. i think that was one of the requirements for us to graduate high school.

Then you should have that requirement filled.

I think it might be a 3 year requirement for UCLA, I know it is for UCB, but I could be wrong. Speak with your counselor asap to clear up on discrepancies.

thank you nancie for clearing that up for me. My other question is i did 2 years in high school of spanish 1 &2 but now i heard but am not sure if u need 3 years of a foreign language which class would i have to take? i am currently now enrolled at a cc

does that mean we're going to have to send in our high school transcripts as well when they ask for our college transcripts?

You can just send the transcript to your CC. That's what I did.

im currently attending a csu tho?

Then the CSU will have your transcripts. You're fine.

okay cool. thanks!
