Is fox news really that biased?

I watch a lot of news-and I watch a variety of channels. In my opinion, FOX varies in bias (amongst different reporters and shows). Their basic news is pretty neutral, but the talk shows are biased. But that’s no different from any other network! I mean, MSNBC, anyone?

And I’ve never heard of an incident where FOX, “outright and blatantly lie[d] to the point where it’s no longer news.”

You can answer your own question easily. Just analyze Fox News’ motto: Fair and Balanced (Catch the irony?).

Also, usually, if someone is being dishonest out of malice and tries to exert influence through fear (aka Glenn Beck), it’s probably not a good idea to listen to him/her because its obvious they’re being manipulative.

Every channel is biased these days. MSNBC is so pro-Democrats

^ That is correct. Every channel is biased. It is more of a matter of degree.

The thing that bugs me so much about Fox’s bias is the fact that (like pacific said), some of their commentators do use hate and stir up fear.

It is obvious that Olberman and Maddow are far-left liberals, but I don’t recall them ever using fear and hate in order to influence people one way or the other. That is more than I can say for Beck & co…

^ I’m curious, what exactly has Beck done that you consider to be using “hate” to influence people? I haven’t watched him much, except during the whole heathcare debate, but I seem to remember mostly clowning, twinkies, and chalkboard equations.

…chalkboard equations with Hitler references…

which, btw, I continue to find baffling during this whole “Mosque at Ground Zero!!!1one!!!111” thing and the PATRIOT Act, but nvm haha

Fox is slanted right there is no question about it but mostly in their shows that are based on the Host’s opinions. The news reporting is as factual as anyone else’s perhaps more. Compare virtually the rest of the media MSNBC, Time, Newsweek, NYT, WP, etc… and you have liberal apologists masquerading as “journalists”. Dan Rather, Jonathan Alter, I mean come on. The very question posed is a cover and is a standard tactic used by idiots on both sides, accuse your competitors of that which your are guilty. (I am an ex-Liberal raised by 2 college professors).

Roman if you havent seen Maddow and Olberman use fear and hate then you have not watched them at all. Google Olberman and see what you come up with; both of them are hacks and worthless. At least the Fox folks are likeable.

^^^ Ah, well, I must have forgotten those parts. What exactly has he compared with Hitler, and in what contexts? My google search turned up a lot of blogs saying “The Beckzerker is horrible!”, but very few actual facts.

Want an example of a liberal (although not a talk show host) who uses fear and hate?

Lying and fear-mongering are both terrible, and I despise anyone who stoops to those levels. I doubt, however, that as many people are blindly following Rep. Grayson than are blindly following those who compare Obama to Hitler.

I have relatives on my mother’s side of the family that were Roma living in Romania and Poland, and I have relatives on both sides that were Jews living in Germany, who, fortunately, had decided to emigrate before World War I. For Glenn Beck to compare the ridiculing of Fox News to the execution of millions of Jews, Slavs, Roma, and Socialists is both degrading and insulting.

^ Ok then. Those were before my time. I can understand some of the comparisons when taken in context, but I don’t want to spend the time looking into the others, nor do I want to get into the position of Glenn Beck’s advocate.

I don’t understand how President Obama is in anyway like Hitler. It’s only fair to assess that almost everyone who compares him to Hitler is discriminatory (racist, anti-non Christian religion here).

Basically, from what I’ve seen from Glenn Beck’s show is a blackboard with arrows that connect Obama to some guy who is somehow socialist or communist so that in case makes Obama socialist or communist (doesn’t he know the inverse is always false? No wonder we have the lowest rates of mathematical proficiency in the industralized world). His sense of logic makes me want to retch repeatingly for hours as if I was bulimic. Oh, and his books are badly written. His “Common Sense” book, which he compares to Thomas Paine’s book, has nothing to do with Thomas Paine’s philosophy. He just took the name. If knowledge of that isn’t enough for most people to discredit him, then they’re just looking for an emotional thrill from their TV screens and from Beck’s books.

*At least the Fox folks are likeable. *

Indeed. You may not like Beck’s politics, but his genuine, raw emotion is unimpeachable.

Beck gets nauseating at times. Only watch his Friday shows because they usually have a historical/educational twist to them.

^^^ No reasonable people are comparing Barack Obama with Adolph Hitler. Some people are comparing Obama’s policies with Hitler’s policies, claiming that they share various problems. This can be a perfectly valid and reasonable opinion, even if false.

All politicians are similar in the respect that they all promise to do something to get elected. Adding to that, you can bs any two otherwise completely different topics to find similarities if you have sufficient information about both and you are smart and soulless enough to manipulate people (it’s not that uncommon). Plus, all governments share similar problems in their policies. I mean, people have to eat and get paid. I just think the Hitler analogy is just crass and disrespectful to the memory of the 8 million Jews murdered doing WWII.

I just think that anyone who has invested themselves in something heavily that they cannot let go is deluding himself. It’s so easy to look from the inside of your home out at the window, rather than try to look at the window from outside looking in.

All of them are biased but Fox is just in a different category of biased…

Fox is known to be on the far right on the political spectrum (in simple terms: very conservative). :P
