Is French useful?

Dadx, do not fear the forthcoming reaction. I was simply curious how one would learn Spanish for all the wrong reasons. For the record, I do believe that most people learn languages a lot more because of necessity than for the mere love of learning. This is something people who grow up in small countries sandwiched between more powerful nations or along the borders between countries with different languages quickly learn.

Languages also work in mysterious ways. For instance, few people in the country that loves to repeat "Good fences make good neighbors" would know that the origin of the often misquoted can be traced to the Spanish, "Una pared entre dos vezinos haze durar la amistad." Obviously, it took Frost's genius to remove the simplicity of the words.

Ah, a benevolent response from Xiggi :).

Actually French must help a bit in understanding Spanish too, because I got the essence of the reeses pieces post, although I had sort of summed it up as "Spanish has been very very good to me". (Apologies to Chico Esquella)

What was the reaction in Spanish to the UM ND result Saturday?

jajaja... La reacción fue muchas fiestas. :) Los estudiantes aquí están MUY contentos esta semana.

Yes, French is similar in some ways to Spanish thus making it easy for you to understand. Both languages are Romance Languages meaning they are descendant languages of Latin. Hence, ROMEance. :)

Surprisingly, I was able to decipher most of reeses' espanol post but the only foreign language I've had is a couple years of German many years ago. It must be osmosis.
