I'm an incoming Computer Science/Plan II honors major wondering if the Freshman Research Initiative is worth it. I've already been offered a spot, and have taken it, but am now doubting if I actually want to do it. If it's only going to make things more difficult schedule-wise, I don't see why I should. The prospect of research is interesting, but I just don't know. Will it cover one of the two science sequences required for my degree in CS? How much time in the week does it typically take up because I do want to participate in intramurals and student clubs/organizations? Thanks!

Read the top left corner of this brochure, there you will find that course hours can be gained through the FRI program. Depending on the stream you may receive different types of course credit options. For example, doing research on molecular motor proteins? Bio credit, physics credit, or chem credit (not all 3, you pick). Doing some research at the center for linear dynamics? Physics, comp sci. There’s a full list here:

There you will find some of the research streams and the course credit that they are associated with.

I’m an incoming plan2 student as well (and Physics major) and am super excited for this I see no downsides to it and the extra work is definitely worth it in my opinion.
