I am leaning between two schools--- FSU and UF. I have applied to the BA Acting program at FSU and am waiting on the result. If I don't make it in, I'm definitely choosing UF.

My question is, is it WORTH going to FSU purely for the BA Acting program? How much attention/opportunity do BA students get in comparison to BFA? If I love acting, would it be worth my choosing FSU just for that program?

I know UF has basically no acting whatsoever, but is this really a big deal? I like acting and would like to make a career of it but it definitely isn't my ONLY ambition.

For acting or musical theater apparently the name does actually appear to make a difference at your next stop…typically NY or LA. From what I’ve read FSU is well regarded and the competition is unbelievable.

The poster All4FSU (Michele) is a faculty member in this area at Florida State. You might read through her posts and maybe PM her for information.

I know FSU’s program is stronger, and that UF’s is nonexistent. I’m asking if the BA program, NOT the BFA, is worth being in. Do BA students do half as much as the BFA students do? Or is it second rate for them?

I think if you’re dedicated to doing theatre, a BA from FSU is going to get you farther than a BA or any other degree from UF. FSU has way more name power in the industry.

The power and resources of FSU in theatre is probably the biggest reason I’m going to be a Nole next year after doing my research.

I think that the original question involves a comparison between the BA and the BFA degrees. I can not say with certainty, but, I would suggest you go for the BA. A BA degree implies a more well-rounded liberal arts education. Even if you get less Acting training, you will come out a more educated person.

Become a better educated, more worldly student. Eventually, your education will make you a better actor with greater depth of knowledge. Don’t cheat yourself at this early stage of your life. You can always take more acting lessons and workshops.

That would be my advice…for what it’s worth.
