Is Georgetown that much better than BC??

Hi all!
I am a senior and was recently admitted to both Georgetown University and Boston College, both of whom are my top choices. I live directly in Boston, and my family would prefer I stayed closer to home, rather than be a 7 hour drive away. Both colleges offered me similar financial aid packages, and I initially was leaning towards GT because of the better reputation. However, I was wondering… is it really worth it? Is GT THAT much better than BC for a Political Science/Government major (me), or is it not a big deal??
Thanks for your help!

Honestly, given that the finances are similar, GT is the stronger choice for IR…given the caliber of the teachers and courses, it would be hard to walk away from. Was your admittance to the Walsh School?

Are you in SFS at Georgetown? If so, I think its reputation is definitely better than BC. I think GT has a little better rep overall, but BC is a good school. Also, being in DC offers many more opportunities, such as speakers coming to campus and networking.

I’m not in SFS, I’m in the College! Didn’t really know too much about SFS until it was too late

Some of it would depend on what you plan on doing in politics. If you are interested in federal service or international relations, then Georgetown is tough to beat. But Boston has the state capital, & a fascinating city government, as you surely know. Bottom line is that you wouldn’t be insane to pick BC…its graduated a ton of famous politicians.

Another thing to consider is the overall vibe of the college. BC will have a tighter community and more school spirit. Georgetown, due to its location will have a lot of social stuff happening off vs on campus. So if that is all important to you, it is worth considering.

Thanks so much!!! All your opinions helped a lot:)
