hello! im set to graduate this semester with what would have been a 4.0+. I’ve been an all A’s student my whole life, and I’m pretty sure I got a C on a test for my dual credit class. I’m accepted to a University already. Will this impact my college gpa a whole lot if I get all A’s through college? how much will this impact my high school gpa? thank you
So you think that you got one C on one test. This is very normal.
First of all, you should relax. This will be fine however it comes out.
Secondly, some college and university tests and exams are very tough. Sometimes they are marked on a curve. I can remember a few cases of exams where the class average was in the mid 40’s. Both of my daughters have reported the same thing. I remember a case where an 85 was both the highest grade in the class and resulted in an A+. One daughter had the exact same thing happen to her. In high school, an 85 had never in my experience resulted in an A+. I even remember one exam in university where any positive score was a passing grade – the class average was very close to zero and a lot of students had a negative score on that particular exam. College and university are not the same as high school.
I know a professor who used to teach in the faculty of arts at a very good university (he retired recently). At one point this professor introduced me to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts. The Dean proudly pointed out that my friend the professor had given him the only D that he ever had in his life. This did not stop him from going to become the Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
My understanding from your post is that this is one single test. There will be more tests.
Find out how you really did compared to other students. Then you might want to talk to the professor about how you can do better in the future.
Finally, understand that there are some really hard courses in university. You are not ready for some of them. No high school student is ready for some of them. Take the prerequisites seriously when you get to signing up for college or university courses.
One of my daughters only had one B though the end of high school. I was secretly thrilled when she got her B (although I have never told her this – maybe I should some day). She learned that she did not need to be perfect. She could get a B and yet her parents still loved her, her friends were still her friends, and the ice cream was still good at the local ice cream place. She still went on to get accepted to every university that she applied to (and did well once she got there), with merit aid from most of them.
This is a learning experience. It is not a major problem.
I had a prof pass nack a test with the comment “passing is positive”
Unless you go to the same college that you are taking the current course from, it is unlikely to include that grade in your GPA for its own purposes.
However, if you apply to transfer to a different college or to graduate or professional school (e.g. medical or law school), then all college courses and grades will be included in your application and GPA calculations, including the current course.
