Is getting all As one year a disadvantage?

I’ve heard numerous people say that a upward trend in grades looks better than a downward, which makes sense. But, how would that affect me?

Freshman year i had just about a 4.0, sophomore year i had a straight 4.0 because i had rediculously easy classes (these were required classes that i had to take), junior year i challenged myself and took 2 APs and otherwise honors classes but my GPA slipped down to a 3.85. Is this bad? It does show a downward trend, but it’s only because i challenged myself so much more. Will my good performance in easy sophomore year classes eventually hurt me? This doesn’t seem right.

I don't think it will hurt you. Many colleges will weight your gpa if your school doesn't do it for you, and understand that challenging AP/honors classes are more challenging than mainstream classes. I think most colleges will appreciate that you recognized you weren't at the right academic level, and be happy to see that you challenged yourself.
