Is going to college far away really worth it?

I live right around USF in Tampa. It is a good school but not as "good" as UCF and FSU, which are a few more hours away. I also want to move away from home. But my parents won't help pay for schools that require living outside of the house. How would I pay for it? I am thinking of majors like accounting or prepharmacy and they all seem to have those in check.

How would you pay for it? Well, that would be difficult without your parents’ help. You can only borrow $5500 for frosh year.

What is the situation?

Do you qualify for Bright Futures? If so, what level?

Are your parents expecting BF to pay for most/all of your tuition, so they don’t need to pay much more?

Is there an amount that your parents will spend regardless of where you go? or will they refuse to give one dime if you go away?

If your parents will give you $5k per year (about the cost of your USF tuition) that you can use anywhere, then you’d need to apply to schools that would give you HUGE merit for your stats (at least full tuition) so that your parents’ contribution, a student loan, and maybe some summer earnings could pay for the rest.

If your parents won’t spend one dime if you “go away” because they don’t want you “going away”, then you’re likely stuck unless you get a complete full ride somewhere.

Yes I qualify for the Bright Futures second award level: 75 hours. Though, I could go higher only if I knew I were able to go to schools like UCF and FSU. Which my mom has told me she wouldn’t help pay for a long time. But these schools aren’t private or prestigious schools of some sort. They are all in state and public. I probably won’t be getting a huge merit either.
