Im considering going to Indiana University but I’m scared I won’t fit in well there. I don’t want to join a sorority and I’m not particularly big on partying. Will I find people who just like to chill and stay in? Is it hard to have a social life if you’re not involved in Greek life?
You’ll be fine. IU is huge and there will be plenty of people like you no matter what your interests are. This says only about 8000 students are in Greek life out of 40000 undergrads.

I think its something like 18% of IU is Greek. There are plenty of students who aren’t. My D is in a sorority but she is also engaged in other groups as well. You don’t have to be part of Greek life to have a social life but there are some events that are more Greek oriented. Football, Basketball, Dance Marathon, and ton’s of other activities exist at IU that people not in Greek life participate in. If you don’t want to do any of those, then yes you will find people who might be more into just hanging out and chilling.
There seemed to be a lot of discussion on the IU Parent page during rush. There was talk of a spin off FB page but I don’t know if it materialized. Many girls were crushed when they didn’t get a bid to their top picks or a bid at all. My daughter unfortunately got very ill in the dorm this year and had to disaffiliate her sorority to focus on her health and grades. There are a lot of mandatory meetings and events that girls get charged for if they miss. There are other professional fraternities that offer fun and friendships without the residential requirement.
