I've been playing guitar for 6 years now and take private lessons, but i've never really pursued it outside of my house. I don't have any awards or recognition, but I do spend a good deal of time on it.

duh 10char

Well it is an extra-curricular.

How about attempting to move your talents along? Teach guitar lessons, or perform somewhere as volunteering.

Gryffon5147, that’s why I’m unsure. I’ve never really sought to go beyond my personal playing. I’m already a junior and i’ve never felt the need to perform/teach/whatever.

I can’t see why it would hurt to put it on your application. I don’t teach or play in a band, or even perform at all - and I don’t even take private lessons - but I still added it to my application. For what it’s worth, so far I’ve gotten into all the colleges I applied to (though, of course, there are many other factors in the admissions process).

If you play classical guitar, you probably want to make special mention of that.

It makes for a pretty useful essay, even if you don’t go out and play shows. I wrote about playing on stage with a punk-rock band for one of my CommonApp essays, and it got me into Cornell as a bioengineer.

yeah i learn classical from my teacher, and he helps me when i want to learn other stuff by myself.

alright thanks for the responses!
