I applied as a political science major and just would like some information about it and its rigor of getting admitted.

Jackfitz, according to the enrollment data at link below (see pg. 2.5), in 2006, H&SS had a 39% accepatance rate.

The most recent set of statistics for 2007-2008 is here:

Admission Statistics

If you do the math, then the admit rate for H&SS was ~34%.

so in order for me to be accepeted this year i would have to be within the 1185

is it possible to switch from hss to cas or other schools?

It's usually pretty difficult since H&SS is the easiest school to get into at CMU and they don't want people bypassing each individual college's admissions process by just getting into H&SS and then ditching.

Don't know which CAS is, don't recognize the acronym.

CAS is normally College of Arts and Sciences. But CMU doesn't call any of their colleges that. There is the College of Science (or College of Computer Science) and also the College of Fine Arts.

CMU's science college is MCS for Mellon College of Science

Yeah, we have SCS (School of Computer science), CIT (Carnegie Institute of Technology), MCS (Mellon College of Science), H&SS (Humanities & Social Sciences), CFA (College of Fine Arts) plus a number which are graduate-only. Also there may be a separate one for architecture students because I can't remember which school they fall into.

if it's not possible to transfer, is it possible to do premed at hss?

CMU offers no premed, prelaw, or pre-professional degree that I'm aware of.

You could always do a major within H&SS (it's nickname is H&Less Stress for a reason) and double into biology, chemistry, or some other science that might be more applicable to your interests.

there is no degree called pre -law. it is usually an advisory program - have not seen any info in CMU that talks about such an advisory

even if I do my major at hss I can still do the premed requisites at cms right?

My sister switched from H&SS to Mellon relatively easily, but then tried to switch into Tepper and they didn't let her, if I understood the story correctly.

djvu, I don't know what classes are required for premed at most schools, but I imagine if you want to take some bio classes you won't have a problem with it, especially if you're in H&SS and have the scheduling freedom that comes with it.

on the admission statistics,is "rank" the average high school decile rank of entering students?

"even if I do my major at hss I can still do the premed requisites at cms right?"

i am also wondering this, can i get a concrete answer?

I was priority waitlisted at HSS..I hear they will be recruiting heavily from that list...any truth to this?

SpaceRanger, what is your source for what you heard, please.
