Is Harvey Mudd better than UCB? (Engineering)

I still think that Berkeley is the way to go if you want to be a competent engineer. Well, that is, if you can’t hack MIT or Stanford engineering.

Finally, an explanation for the collapse of American high tech: We’re being flooded with incompetent engineers! The horror! ;)

HAHA! Very funny! My company is, by choice, not on the radar… until we launch our vehicle.

Ranking-wise, UCB ranks higher than Mudd as far as I know in nearly everything in engineering.

And realistically, UCB is better for job hunting because it’s MUCH closer to Silicon Valley where all the big and small high tech companies have clustered. This makes internships much easier to get and interview for, and in the long run, you have better chances of networking and industry-experience.

Putting industry aside and looking at research, Berkeley probably has better opportunities for this too with programs such as URAP and even publications on undergrad research. The only downside? Competition will be a lot tougher than Mudd for research positions. Mudd, after all, is a small private school.

Economics-speaking, if you live in Cali UCB is definately more worth the money you’re paying. It has better rankings and is cheaper than Mudd–pretty obvious winner there.
