i was just wondering if having a facebook is absolutely pivotal to have an active social life in college. i just have never liked the idea of social networking websites (i hate taking pictures and i think people get too engrossed in the "drama" of it all), and prefer to contact my friends via text message, e-mail, aim, or WOW! over the good ol' phone.

so... will i still be able to go to parties, hang out, whatever if i don't have one in college?

no. but i found that it helps. its sorta fun to have for yourself and can definitely be a good way to keep in contact with people in your life, whether it is school or not. i know there are people who, when they wouldnt pick heir cellphones, were on facebook and we exchanged info on homework or future assignments. so, yes, i think it can help but if its a social life you are looking for get over yourself. people will see through right away if you are looking to be a facebook w****.

Facebook was handy for me when I lost my phone and to keep in touch with my friends back home b/c none of them like talking on the phone. Though we use IM more than facebook.

Facebook is what you make of it. If you don’t like talking to friends on Facebook or getting involved in drama, then you don’t have to. You can use it to find out about events that you might not hear of or you can just get contact info about people (if they post it). Many times I find that it is easier to get contact info from Facebook that to ask hundreds of people for their phone number, email, screenname, and all that other stuff, especially if you get a new phone or loose yours. Try it out and if you don’t like it then don’t use it that much then. I just see it as another way to connect to people. But, no you can still have a great time without Facebook.

I made a facebook like two years ago and never used it. Now that I’ll be in college & everyone migrating to facebook from myspace, I will actually start using it. xD
