I'm still scratching my head at that one, that's the typical response that I normally get from teachers or counselors who tell me not to fret so much. Although I'm a sophomore I find HS anything but fun, I just find it very stressful. Freshman year was kind of fun , but that was only because everything seemed to be new and exciting. But so far, my HS experience hasn't been so fun.

It used to be… but now I’d say it’s college, since the way people view high school has changed so much. You have to grow up a lot faster and you’re always stressing over your next big test or some crap to put on your college applications. Back when our parents were kids they didn’t really even think of that stuff and they had a lot more fun. They hung outside a lot more too. I think nowadays college is “the best four years of your life” by definition because to me it seems like the ‘high school’ of old, meaning it’s more about learning, finding yourself, and having a good time than high school is now, unfortunately. That’s not to say that you don’t have to focus in college and work hard and be stressed sometimes… it’s just there’s a lot more to do than there is in high school now (especially with the way parents shelter and lord over their children nowadays) than there used to be.

I don’t think high school is just one year, OP.

And to those saying “there’s gotta be more to life,” no *ing *, you’re only 14-18, and in no position to make any judgment on life whatsoever.

If high school has not been so happy, you can look forward to college as a new opportunity to find what you are looking for socially and intellectually. Looking back over more than 30 years now, I can say that high school and college were very happy times for me and were special–partly because of the energy and excitement of being young and also because of the relative lack of serious responsibilites. But later life --family, career, travel, new friends and new insights–can also bring wonderful years. Happiness in life comes from the spirit and outlook that you bring to your experiences–be curious, adventurous, empathetic and involved and take life as a gift every day.
