i know that princeton has an amazing history program, but is it popular?

the rep that came to DC area said 60% (or some other REALLY high percentage) of students enroll in 5 majors. She said that top five majors by far are economics, english, woodrow wilson and two others that i can't recall. I was really surprised because I thought that History was one of their most popular majors. I might not have heard history...coz she was talking really fast.

i guess it could be a good thing....less competition for admissions :). Coz she did say that Princeton is trying to attract people to lesser known majors such as "Near Eastern Studies". But I am not sure if history is one of the "lesser known".

What is woodrow wilson???

I thought History was really popular, too!

If the major is very unique and unpopular I don't think it'll matter.

Which does not include history

history is one of the "big five" majors. woodrow wilson refers to the woodrow wilson school of public and international affairs, known to students as "woody woo," and in which undergraduate students can major. see:

darn it, is that bad for admission? is there more competition? My three intended majors are history, woody woo and politics. All three are in "big 5." Nonetheless, I am not gonna lie on my app (like my firend who is putting down classics, even though he has no intention to further study Latin).

I LOVE Princeton, but I would only wanna go there if they like me for who I am, and want I wanna do.

I just hope I get into Princeton.........

I wouldn't say that choosing any major would hurt your chances. People lie about majors and changes them as they go through the school year, so majors are not a major factor, they will not hurt your chances. But you do have to use anything you can to get ahead of the competition.

yeah but then there is ethics and its somewhat dodgy to write down a major you know you won't do.

Having said that it seems funny how although the maths major is quite small at Princeton, a lot of people on CC are looking at it.

Is entry into maths all that compeditive?

Princeton has what many people acknowledge to be one of the 3 best math programs in the country. So it's competitive from an excellence perspective but probably not from a too-many-people-are-choosing-it perspective.
