So, we have to make our schedules for the next school year I’m currently in 9th grade and the only class I’m not so sure on is honors chemistry. I want to take it and try to push myself a bit, but I’ve had my friend tell me its hard/people do bad and honestly I’m not so sure anymore any advice?
Nobody can predict how hard it will be for you. It would depend on your academic skills and interests, the teacher etc. Talk to your current teacher and guidance counselor for advice.
It depends. What are you looking to do after high school? Go into a STEM major or liberal arts? I would say go for it and see if you can actually handle the work. If it’s too much you can always switch to a regular Chemistry after the first week of school or second.
I took Honors Chemistry in freshman year, and I have to say, it wasn’t easy. However, with enough effort and studying, it shouldn’t be much a problem. Lots of chemistry is memorization. Good luck!
“Lots of chemistry is memorization. “
No way. Did you mean biology? I’m a chemistry minor and there’s no memorization.
I always say the difficulty of any class depends on the teacher. First, each teacher has a certain amount of ability to get material across to students. The teacher could be quite adept in that or weak. Secondly, each teacher structures his or her class. Do they take a lot of grades? Are they an easy grader? Are they organized? Does he or she create fair assessments? One class to another varies greatly depending on the instructor. My ds took honors chemistry in 10th grade and it was a bear! The teacher knew his chemistry but couldn’t explain it for the life of him. He also recycled old tests and often he hadn’t covered material that he was testing. He had taught the material during a previous class but not in this one. My suggestion is to research the quality of the teacher you will have and make your decision from there. I have found “word of mouth” about instructors tends to be spot on.
