I’m going to Umaine, and got accepted into the honors college, but I’m not sure it’s worth it. I’m going to be living at home, so the special dorm isn’t a benefit, I’m doing a difficult double major, and I have most of my gen Ed done already from AP classes. The classes and programs themselves don’t sound particularly interesting, seeing as I’m not really a Humanities person. The only real benefit I can see to joining is if members get preferential treatment when it comes to things like internships, research, and jobs on campus. So I wanted to ask, is this true? Do these people get preferential treatment, or is it for the most part irrelevant when it comes to that?
Hi @NorthernMainah, as someone who went there myself, I absolutely recommend the Honors College even if you don’t do the whole dorm experience. In terms of jobs on campus, I don’t know if that helps, but what I can tell you is that it helps a LOT when it comes to internships or jobs afterwards. UMaine isn’t exactly the highest ranked college, but graduating from the Honors College will set you apart from the rest of the students for sure. Good luck!
